    Job Description:

    Function:-

    Organise and support Organic & Fair Trade Certification processes for project farmers

    Core Responsibilities:-

    1.) Oversee and manage all certification related issues/processes in Chetna field areas;
    2.) Ensure smooth flow of communications between certification agencies and the operators in Chetna;
    3.) Put in place quality certification systems and procedures in Chetna;

    Specific Tasks: -

    A) Training/capacity building

    1.) Prepare training calendar, training curriculum and training plans for successful implementation of Internal Control System (ICS) in all the field operational areas/regions;
    2.) Orient and train the staff on - ICS operational principles & guidelines, Organic and Fair Trade standards & practices and facilitate understanding of the same as articulated in the ICS manual;
    3.) Train and support staff and cooperatives on proper utilization of Fair Trade premiums in an appropriate and transparent and undertake periodic tracking for the same;
    B) Documentation & Information Support

    1.) Collate quarterly summary reports, farmers’ lists and other documentation related to certification from different clusters;
    2.) Ensure that total documentation structure is in place, incl. putting in place all necessary formats/templates, periodic updating and modification of certification documents, etc;
    3.) Support external advisors and internal auditors through providing them with clear information on standards and ICS guidelines and market needs;

    C) Field Support

    1.) Scan and cross verify appropriate/adequate sample (forms, field ICS documents and farm diaries) and facilitate necessary corrective action, improvements and appropriate decision making (in consultation with the state level Coordinators);
    2.) Undertake random field audits (based on risk assessment and internal inspection reports) for an appropriate sample size - in consultation with the state/cluster/district coordinators;
    3.) Random checking of all the required and statutory documents relating to ICS/certification and giving feedback;
    4.) Support state coordinator in planning, review and processing of ICS/certification documents and follow-up;
    5.) Support field teams in identification of potential field based monitors for group certification);
    D) Program Support

    1.) Coordinate with external certification agencies for Organic and Fair Trade (FLO-cert and FLO-e.v) to organize and put in place necessary certification processes;
    2.) Selection of appropriate external consultants and facilitate contracts;
    3.) Provide clear inputs to program on issues related to admission of farmers, conversion status and compliance, non-compliance, corrective action and sanctions;
    4.) Draft necessary documents, case studies and reports that may help to enable certification policies in favour of small farmers;
    5.) Monitor child labour policy adopted by the Chetna groups;
    6.) Any other tasks as may be assigned by the line manager to support program development;

    Desired Candidate Profile:

    Required Qualification:-

    1.) University level education (or equivalent) in a relevant subject (Agriculture, Basic Sciences, etc.)
    2.) Fluency in English (both verbal & written form)
    3.) Ability to read, write and converse in Hindi and any other regional language (Telugu and /or Marathi and /or Oriya)
    4.) Excellent communication skills, team player, flexible and proven ability of working in a multi-cultural environment;
    5.) Excellent computer skills (use of MS Office and data analysis).
    6.) Good analytical skills and ability to take clear and decisions;

    7.) Motivation for working on sustainable/organic farming and farmer centred issues
    Desirables:-
    1.) Past experience of working in certification related issues/projects
    2.) Familiar with one or more of the following certification schemes: Organic, Eurepgap, SA 8000, Fair Trade, ISO 9000 or equivalent
    3.) Prior experience in social auditing and /or organic auditing.
    4.) Understanding of the agricultural sector and agriculture trade policies

Thus it helps in the selection of genetically divergent parents for exploitation in hybridization programme. Main objects of my thesis are
    1. Evaluation of nature and extent of Genetic Variability available in the basmati rice germplasm based on quantitative and quality characters.
    2. Estimation of genetic parameters (PCV, GCV, Heritability and Genetic Advance).
    3. Estimation of genetic distance among 34 genotypes of Basmati rice.
    4. Selection of genetically divergent parents for hybridization programme.

    - Participated in 8th Indian Agricultural Scientists and Farmers Congress at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi on Feb 2006.
