Gem Sugars Limited had its beginning on 6th March,1995 when it was incorporated to set up a new green- field sugar factory along with a co-generation plant in Kundargi Village, Biligi Taluk, Bagalkot District, in the State of Karnataka, India.The Company is promoted by Mr.R.Veeramani, Chairman, Gem Group of Companies, Chennai.
The Company has successfully commissioned sugar plant of capacity 4000 TCD with co-generation plant of capacity 16.5 MW during the sugar year 2002-03, presently, expanded to 7500 TCD with co-generation of 24 MW. The layout has been designed in such a way so that the expansion of crushing capacity up to 10000 TCD is possible in the existing complex itself. Recognising the fuel value of bagasse which is a by-product generated in the sugar plant the company has set up II Phase 8 MW co-generation plant in the sugar complex itself. This apart, the company has proposal to set up a 60 KLPD distillery-cum-Ethanol Plant in the sugar complex itself
