Job Description:
•Ensures the company’s compliance with rules as applicable in India and to an Indian company operating within a global corporate structure.
•Manages and supervises the activities of the Company Secretary.
•Working with the global legal team as appropriate, provides support to management in the negotiation of complex contracts by providing input to the development of strategy and tactics and by otherwise providing legal counsel throughout the contractual process.
•Develops contract documentation that meets corporate requirements whilst complying with all relevant local practice & legislation and supporting the best interests of the Company
•Develops & maintains an effective network of business contacts at all levels of the organisation including strategic and/or key decision making roles in order to ensure legal department is effectively integrated within the planning & decision making processes .
•Provides general legal advice and support to other functions e.g. human resources, corporate services, sourcing, real estate & facilities management etc.
•Effectively manages all litigation matters and disputes, including developing and implementing appropriate risk-mitigation strategies in relation to WABCO’s business operations and activities in India.
•In coordination with WABCO’s global ethics and compliance programme, provides appropriate advice and training to the India Management Team and the WABCO staff in India on related corporate governance matters.
•Under the direction of the company’s Chief Intellectual Property Counsel, and in cooperation with the global legal team, manages intellectual property matters in India.
•Supports complex global or regional projects by providing expertise to advise on the most effective legal and compliant solutions.
•Pro-actively identifies potential changes in business practices and indicates specific risks or the opportunities for the business. Advises on required actions to optimise results.
•Provides appropriate legal advice and support to all levels of internal customers on diverse types of issues to ensure legality and consistency of approach.
•Develops and delivers appropriate training and education programmes to support the business in maintaining legality and avoiding potential pitfalls.

Desired Candidate Profile:
•LLB, JD or equivalent from a Common Law jurisdiction
•Qualification to practice in India
•10+ years experience as a qualified lawyer
•Experience in a reputable corporate law firm
•Track record in an in-house department of an Indian publicly traded company with global operations, or an Indian country operation within a multinational company
•Experience outside India, preferably in a corporate multinational or law firm environment
•High proficiency in English and communication skills (verbal and written).
•At least one foreign language desired, but not mandatory. Other languages that are desirable include German, Chinese, French.
•Strong time and priority management skills
•Demonstrated ability to work with external law firms and manage costs.
