SUMMARY-
Last decade has seen me through various kinds of projects, profiles, varied teams and diversified portfolios & topics, concerning fashion designing, design consultancy for films & TV software, thematic designing, developing strategies for production lines, etc.
This wide-ranging experience has expanded and refined a lot of skills within me, like developing concepts & work strategies, working and achieving goals along with a team, achieving targets within shoestring budgets and tight deadlines, translating ideas, concepts & thoughts into desired results, and the likes,.
As I look forward to focus on my core area of designing, which is to contribute towards making international fashion trends achievable and affordable to regular people through beautiful and practical clothes, I’m confident, my creative skill sets and experiences will stand me in good stead in delivering result for the benefit of the company as well as for my professional growth.
WORK EXPERIENCE-
- 2010 Jan-Dec. Consultant stylist, for “p7news’ which is a national level Hindi news channel. Successfully styled the news anchors as per the image and requirement of the channel, after initiating the styling department from scratch, which included costumes, make-up, accessories, along with all department organizational matters.
- 2009, Jul-Sept. Costume designer (styling, designing, production) for the movie “I am Kalaam”. (Won over 12 international awards including National award, screened in 26 international film festivals.)
- 2007 till 2011. Costume designer for 5 classical dance ballets (about 20-26 dancer groups). Each ballet had a separate theme, dealing with separate social issues, brought together with a fusion of different dance forms, like Odissi, Chhau and others which were hugely applauded by the audience
- 2004 till 2008. Designed & developed costumes for television serial “ATMAJAA” (78 episodes)
- 2005 till 2007. Designed & developed costumes for television serial “CHIRAAG” (39 episodes)
- 2006, Jul-Aug. Designed costumes for short film “CHUPPEE” (35 mins)
- 2005 till present. Stylist for many television actors, news anchors & journalists, both for their on-screen and their personal wardrobes.
- 2005, August-Sept. Developed a few collections with Ms Zarina Muhammed, Dubai-based fashion designer, as Associate Design Developer, for the high fashion segment of the UAE market. This included a collection of Jalabias (traditional women’s wear of the Arabs), and others comprising of haute couture evening gowns and dresses. Both the collections were a successful experimentation of unusual kinds of surface ornamentation and draping, on woven and knit fabrics.
- 2004 - Present, Set up my own design house, specializing in Indo-western and western garments. Successfully executed several designs with experimental fabrics, cuts and embroideries catering to export houses as well individual clientele.
- 2004 till 2005 Developed Tie and Dye as a discipline in visual art and held an exhibition of my art works at Delhi after study and research of Bandhej and Shibori. Participated in a number of group exhibitions at Rourkela and Bhubaneswar, Orissa.
- 2003, Sept-Oct. Designed & developed costumes for short film “CHIRAAG” (2 hours)
- 2003, May. Designed & developed costumes for short film “LALEE’s SANSAAR” (60 mins)
- 2001, May. Freelanced for BACARDI CARDABLANCA CO. Designed three collections (women’s wear and men’s wear) for the teaser campaigns for the launch of their new drink ‘BACARDI LIMÓN’
- 2001, June. Freelanced for FFOLIO (Bangalore), a leading Fashion Retail House of India, Designed and executed a collection of Scarves & Stoles in the ‘Shibori’ style of Tie ‘n Dye.
- 2001, December -2003, March. Worked as a designer in Déjà vu creations, New Delhi, an International design house specializing in Indo-western, Western and leather garments for both men and women.
- 2001, July-October. Worked as a designer and merchandiser at Cotton Chic Brands (P) Ltd., Bangalore - a design and export house specializing in kids wear and infant wear
AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS-
- Awarded the ‘MOST PRACTICAL DESIGN COLLECTION’ at the NIFT Design Collection Show, April 2001, presented by the passing out batch 2001 for my collection ‘Kairyo’ inspired by ‘Shibori’ (Japanese techniques of tie ‘n dye). After a lot of research and development on the same, I came up with some unique prints of my own, which are used in the collection.
- Bachelor’s degree in Hindustani Classical (vocal).
SKILLS AND STRENGTHS-
- Good eye to visualize what a particular costume will look like on-screen/on-stage.
- Translating a mood/idea/concept through costumes for film/television/stage.
- Able team player as well as a strong team leader
- To research and design, period/traditional costumes.
- To create prêt lines, by studying high fashion trends, international fashion forecasts, etc.
- Endowed with a trained mind and skilled hands to understand and execute various methods of resist dyeing to create prints/patterns as per design requirements
- Using traditional Indian embroidery in contemporary styling
- Conversant with Adobe Photoshop and other design soft wares.
EDUCATION-
- Graduate diploma in Fashion Designing, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bangalore, 1998-2001.
