    - Project Title : “MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR POLLUTION RESISTANCE OF ARTIFICIALLY POLLUTED CERAMIC DISC INSULATORS”.
    Brief Overview of Project
    Presently transmission of bulk power at high voltages over long distances has become very essential. This task has been performed by overhead transmission lines. The dual task of mechanically supporting and electrically isolating the live conductors from the supporting tower is performed by insulators. Whether in clean condition or polluted conditions, the electrical stress distribution along the insulators governs the possible flashover, which is quite detrimental to the system.
    Pollution plays a prominent role in design of insulators, on which the flashover voltage rating depends. The flashover voltage (Vfo) can be predicted / calculated experimentally or analytically. Since there are so many problems with experimental procedures (time requirement, cost, requirement of skilled person) and present analytical methods (time consumption, tedious and complex calculations) an attempt is done to improve the flashover voltage equation with the model equation calculated for pollution resistance. The substitution of pollution resistance equation in Vfo equation reduces the complexity of calculation of pollution resistance values and hence reduces the calculation time. Our project model value has given satisfactory results with the earlier analytical models and experimental values. Hence this model equation can be used to calculate flashover voltage.
