Push Button GEAR shifting Mechanism in Manual Transmission Gear Box
This push button operated gear shifting mechanism is very popular in two wheelers for special purpose vehicles. A Maruthi 800, 4 speed manual transmissions with floor shifter gear shifting mechanism is selected for current project work. Four different concepts for shifting mechanism were generated and the concept was finalized based on manufacturability, cost and ease of operation. This concept is modeled in CATIA for geometric representation. The basic movement required for shifting gear is the rotation and linear motion of the gear shifter lever at gear box end. The automated gear shifting is achieved by providing mechanism for rotation and linear motion. The torque and force required for rotating and linear motion is measured at gearbox lever end. Based on this the DC motor is selected of required capacity. Here in order to switch the gears, Parameter PIC micro controller is used along with the power circuit which includes transistor & relays. For position sensing or gear detection, proximity sensors are used. Depending upon user requirement the push button for up/down/ neutral or reverse is pressed and based on position of gear the actuation of motor is carried out to shift the selected gears. Shift position of the Gear is detected by the sensors and indicated on LCD. During the entire operation, the clutch should be operated manually for gear shifting.
Working model of push button operated mechanism has been tested for its functionality with different gears. With the help of push button gear shifting has been carried out with ease with the help of electromechanically controlled mechanism. If the gear got stuck in between operation, the malfunctioning of the system will be detected by the controller. It can be easily incorporated to four wheelers for shifting gears with minimum alterations and the gear position can be indicated and displayed. Output speed of gear box can be measured and used as an input for transmission control
