It involves – Rat handling, dose preparation & dosing, induction of diabetes by streptozotocin, locating bilateral carotid arteries & ligating them, removal of brain, homogenization, centrifugation, estimation of enzymes in brain using UV spectrophotometer.

Project 1 :
Project : Effect of sodium azide on zygotic embryo of Coconut-Preliminary study
Duration : 5 months (January 2010 – May 2010)

Technique : - Plant tissue culture (embryo culture), SDS-PAGE analysis, Histological studies, Viability test, and Quantitative analysis (Spectrophotometric analysis).
Project Description :-
The aim of this study was to determine the optimum concentration and efficiency of in vitro NaN3 treated zygotic embryo of coconut cultivar. We can be able to find out mutagenic dose of SA on coconut embryo by calculating LD 50. Histological studies revealed that there were some changes in cell morphology and structure. Some changes in the protein concentration and banding pattern were also observed.
Mutation methodology has been used to produce many cultivars with improved economic value, study genetics and plant developmental phenomena’s .Induced mutations have great potentials and serve as a complementary approach in genetic improvement of crops. Induced mutations have been used to improve major crops such as wheat, rice, barley, cotton, peanut and cowpea .The utilization of new mutagenic agents in several plant species has played an important role in mutation breeding, like gamma rays and Ethyl methyl sulfonate , Sodium azide is one of the most commonly applied mutagen in plants.
The in vitro conditions help for the exposure of many varieties to mutagens easily as they can be exposed to mutagens in a relatively small space for reliable screening against mutations. Successful use of mutagens requires optimum conditions to retain maximum germination capacity of seeds or adventitious shoot regeneration capacity of explants. Besides, the timing and dose of mutagen application are very critical and must be determined empirically. To our knowledge there is no report pertaining to the mutagenic effects of NaN3 on coconut zygotic embryo under in vitro conditions.

Project : Isolation and Identification of infected microorganisms in Urinary tract infection
Duration : 1 month (10th -23rd October 2007)
Role : Project Trainee
Study material : Urine Sample.

Technique : Antibiotic Sensitivity test;-Kirby-Bauer method, Gram staining, Motility test, IMVIC test, Culturing in different medias-Nutrient Agar, Mac-Conkey test, Blood Agar.

In the 30 urine Sample were observed and it was found that the maximum microorganism found was E .coli followed by Klebsiella and then Proteus
