PDS / PDMS Training information required

    Hi,
I am doing job as Autocad Draftsman in a contractor company. I want to switch my career in Plant design system.
My background is not technical /engineering.
Do i need to attend Engineering drafting and design training first then go for PDS.

Kindly suggest me about PDS or PDMS.
which is best to start first PDS or PDMS.
and from where i can persue the training.

Your agile response is highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Abuzar

    Hi abuzar81,
If your background is not technical, how is PDMS / PDS related to you?

You can move up only when you pursue career in your line of academic qualification.

To learn PDS / PDS, you need to have technical knowledge like piping/inst/structural/process, which will be your core competence.

PDS and PDMS are mere softwares.
These softwares can only corroborate / supplement technical competencies - not replace them.

What I have written about is a general rule. There can be exceptions.

If you still want to go for training in softwares, PDMS will be easier to learn. PDMS will offer better opportunities in terms of placement in the future. PDS support has been officially stopped and they have replaced PDS with SP3D ( Smartplant 3D ). SP3D has not yet established itself fully in the market.

Debate on PDS / PDMS / SP3D comparision ( comparison ?) in terms of viability of software implementation, availability of trained manpower and cost involved are still going on with many EPC engineering consultancies.

    Re: PDS Training information required

PDMS holds good future ahead in both India and Gulf.

    Not sure about SP3D.
I have not seen SP3D in action and have never met a SP3D designer.
Not seen many jobs for SP3D.
But I have read in the web that SP3D consumes 40 percent of design time compared to PDS. No idea how it compares with PDMS.

    This is a new software.
Any 3D Engineering software will take 10 years or more to prove and get stabilised in the market. SP3D is no exception. Consider that it has to compete with PDS and PDMS.

Comparing PDMS and PDS, PDMS wins hands down.
May be I am a strong advocate of PDMS, reason being I am used to PDMS.
I had training in PDS also, but decided to stick with PDMS.
PDS is cumbersome, not easy to use and navigate.

For training in PDS / PDMS, I dont know your nearest metro city.
But you can search for some of the posts in this forum in the training section.
Also, I have no idea how good institutes are as I dont have personal experiences with them.

For SP3D, as it is not so popular, there may not be many training institutes around. Any way, I will try to look for them and if there is any, i will post in the training forum.

    Good luck. :)

    That is the right order.
Once he has finished piping training course, ask him to join a company and work to understand piping design. After that PDS / PDMS will be a good option.
