Maharashtra Academy of Naval Education and Training (MANET), Pune, is a part of the glorious Maharashtra Academy of Engineering and Educational Research (MAEER) MIT's Group of Institutions, Pune, India.

MANET was founded in 2001 at Pune to impart world- class education in Marine Engineering. Close to 1,00,000 (one lakh) ships ply the vast oceans of the earth. These ships are in constant need of trained and skilled personnel to remain afloat and keep the marine trade ticking. MANET was MAEER'S response to this need for highly-skilled and well-trained maritime professionals.

Marine Engineering Department The Department of Marine Engineering aims to train the best marine engineering graduates for the shipping industry. Along with providing a broad based knowledge in theory, the cadets are exposed to the marine equipments by providing visits to ships and repair yards.
The educational objectives of our graduate program are to produce graduates who :
[LIST][*] Understand the essential requirements of a marine engineer working on board ship.[*] Will be able to apply their theoretical knowledge to solve problems arising during their career.[*] Are sensitive to the environment, social, safety and possess a strong commitment to ethical practice within that context and also contribute socially.[*] Are able to communicate their ideas and positions clearly and concisely both orally and practically.[/LIST]
Career Prospects
Marine Engineers form the back bone of a ships propulsion and safety. They are therefore required to have good theoretical and practical knowledge of the systems on board ship. As they progress in their career the invaluable experience will provide them better management skills. Apart from the shipping industry there are also similar job prospects ashore (in marine equipments and management companies)

Work-shop
The marine engineering cadets are provided with extensive practical training, in the marine workshop, all kinds of equipment - Diesel Engines, Boilers, Pumps Auxiliary machine, Centrifuges, Valves, etc. They are also required to undergo extensive watch keeping duties in plant operation and safety.

Completion of the four-year marine engineering course in addition to four-modular courses, is the requisite eligibility criteria for the post of a Junior Engineer Officer on merchant ships. Remuneration of Rs. 30,000/- to Rs.50,000/- per month as well as free boarding and lodging can be expected on ships owned by Indian or foreign companies. On completion of the stipulated periods on a ship and passing Competency Examination, conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Govt. Of India or Marine Administration of other Governments, which accounts to 5-6 years, the cadet becomes eligible to be posted as a Chief Engineer of a ship with emoluments of around Rs.3,00,000/- per month approximately.

Practical hands-on experience and a sound theoretical knowledge, add up to make a marine engineer a very competent technocrat. Career prospects are endless in related fields like shipping companies, shipbuilding and repair yards, maritime administration, international classification societies, pharmaceutical companies etc.
