Central University of Gujarat (CUG) was established under the Central Universities Act, 2009 (No. 25 of 2009) to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities, promote innovation in teaching-learning process and research, establish linkages with industries for promotion of science and technology and educate and train manpower for the development of the country. The University has territorial jurisdiction over the whole of the State of Gujarat and admits students on all-India basis. The University is looking for dedicated and committed faculty who believe in institution-building and have a passion for academic excellence and quality research. I am Bikash kumar did B.Pharm from BIT, Mesra Ranchi in 2008 and M.S.(Pharm) in Medicinal Chemistry from Niper-Raebareli having one year project in CDRI-Lucknow in june 2010.
In my M.S. programme, courses in Logic in Organic Synthesis, Spectral Analysis, Separation Techniques, Drug Design, Stereochemistry and Basics of Drug action in Medicinal Chemistry exposed me to the various aspects of designing of synthetic schemes, concepts of their mechanism, purification and characterization of the compounds. Delving deeper into these subjects, I did my project on Design, synthesis and antimalarial evaluation of Xanthene derivatives at Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI, India).
I performed the project by keeping means of Green Chemistry included standardisation of synthetic schemes, putting the different reactions for synthesizing derivatives of the parent pharmacophore nucleus and their purification by column chromatographic methods increased percentage yield by taking appropriate proportion of reactants, some reaction proceeded via without any solvent and purified by without any separation techniques. All purified compounds were characterized by means of Spectral analysis as one and two Dimensional NMR (1H NMR, 13C NMR, COESY, NOESY, HMBC, HMQC, DEPT II, III), Mass and IR. All synthesized compounds were submitted to pharmacology department for the antimalarial evaluation.
I also performed Molecular docking and 3D-QSAR studies of anthranilimide based glycogen phosphorylase inhibitors as anti-diabetic agents at Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI, India). This project has been accepted in Journal of SAR and QSAR (2010).
In order to broaden my horizon, I participated in several seminars and presentations. My oral presentation on “International symposium on Current Trends in Drug Discovery Research (CTDDR-2010)” dealt with different type of designed compounds and their application as antidiabetic agents.
