Age Limit : The applicant must not be less than 20 years and not more than 25 years as on 1st July 2011.

Qualification :

1) Citizenship: The applicant must be a Citizen of India.
2) Education: The applicant must have passed the Graduation or equivalent examination conducted by a recognized University. Educational Qualification obtained from institutions other than a recognized Unversity should be submitted along with the Government of India notification declaring that such Educational Qualification is equvalent to Graduation for employment under Central Governments.

Pay scale : Rs.9300-34800/- + Grade Pay Rs. 4200/-

How to Apply :

A) Examination Fee: An Examination Fee of Rs.150 is payable in the form of s crossed Indian Postal Order/Bank drafr\t Payable in favour of the Financial Adviser and Chief Accounts Officer of the Railway to which the aplication is submitted. Cheque or money Order will not be accepted. Female applicants, applicants belonging to Scheduled Caste & Scheduled Tribe category, Minority community and Economically Backward Classes and Ex-servicemen need not pay the Examination Fee.

B) Application Form: The format of the application form is given at Annexure 'A'. Application Forms can be downloaded from the official website of Indian Railways (www.indianrailways.gov.in) or taken from this advertisement and submitted on A-4 size bond paper, using one side of its leaf only and sent to the address corresponding to the language chosen for the Question Paper.

Last Date of Application Receipt : 30 days from the date, this Employment Notice is published in the Employment News.

Company profile :
The maintenance and security of Railways, the vital artery of national communication and economic progress has been a major concern of the Government of India that goes back to the times when the Railway commenced their operations in India in 1854. Since railways have a linear territory traversing inter-state lines, a foolproof security system has been hard to provide. Nevertheless, the genesis of such an endeavor can be traced back to 1854 when East Indian Railways employed certain staff designated as ‘Police’ to denote its own force by enacting the Police Act, 1861 and deployed a contingent for the security of the railway with the owner companies bearing their upkeep. The Railway Companies exercised full control over the Police Force.

(a) The Written Examination will consist of 120 multiple choice objective type questions of one mark each and shall be of 90 minutes? duration. The question paper will carry 120 as maximum marks. The question paper will consist of 35 questions on General Intelligence & Reasoning (35 Marks), 35 questions on Arithmetic (35 Marks) and 50 questions on General Awareness (50 Marks). Candidates will be required to answer all the questions. Each correct answer will be awarded 1(one) mark and 0.25 mark will be deducted for 1 (one) incorrect answer. No mark shall be awarded or deducted for questions not attempted.

i. General Awareness (50 marks) :- Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to the society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India especially pertaining to History, Arts & Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity, Indian Constitution, Sports, General Science, Scientific Research etc.

ii. Arithmetic (35 marks) :- This part will include questions on problems relating to Number systems, Computation of whole numbers, decimal and fractions and relationships between numbers, fundamental arithmetical operations, percentages, ratio and proportions, averages, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, discount, use of table and graphs, mensuration, time and distance, ratio and time etc.

iii. General Intelligence & reasoning (35 marks) :- It would include questions of both verbal and non- verbal type. This component will include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, problems solving analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation , relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc.

(b) Candidates must bring the Call Letter at the time of written test. Call letter will be sent by post. No one will be allowed to appear in the written examination without a call letter.

(c) Question Paper will be set in Hindi, English, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali, Telugu, Oriya, Punjabi, Gujarati, Tamil, Malyalam, Kannada, Konkani, Assamese and Manipuri. Applicants who wish to have the question paper in a particular language may indicate so in the Application Form. Language, once chosen cannot be changed under any circumstance.
