London: A poll indicates that most men lie when it comes to telling their partners if they look good in a dress.

If women want to know if they look good in that new dress that they have just bought, then the last people they should turn to are the men in their lives, for a new survey has found that almost half of them will lie rather than tell the truth.

The poll, by dating Web site make-friendsonline.com found that though 88 per cent of women want the truth when they ask that crucial question, more than 50 per cent of their partners will end up lying. And, this is especially true for men in the age group of 18 to 24, reports The Mirror .

The age group most likely to give women the right feedback, was the one that consisted of men over the age of 60.

The survey also found that non-professionals, at 60.5 per cent, are more likely to give an honest opinion rather than men with a PhD, who admit to being truthful only 47.5 per cent of the time.
GMTV's love doctor Sam Van Rood said that for most men lying about their lady love’s appearance is the best way out of a rock and a hard place, even if women want the truth.

"For many men lying is a damage-limitation policy, but the survey suggests they should tell the truth," he said.
