RECRUITMENT FOR THE POST OF
CONSTABLE (GD) MALE -2010
Applications are invited from male Indian citizens fulfilling the eligibility conditions for filling
up the vacancies as shown against each State/UT in the rank of Constable (GD) in ‘Sashastra Seema
Bal ’ for the year 2010 in the pay scale of Rs. 5200-20200 plus grade pay Rs. 2000/- plus usual and
admissible allowances to Central Govt. employees including Ration allowance, Medical assistance, free
uniform, free accommodation, free leave pass etc. The last date of receipt of applications of all States is
08-10-2010. However, the closing date for receipt of applications for the candidates from North- Eastern
States, Sikkim, Pangi Sub-Division of Chamba, Lahaul & Spiti and Kinnaur Districts of Himachal
Pradesh, Ladakh Division, and Kashmir of J&K State will be 15.10.2010.

3 . Place of duty:-Any where within as well as outside the Territory of India.
4. ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS FOR THE POST OF CONSTABLE (GD)
(A) Age :
I. 18 to 23 years ( Cut off date for age will be 1st August,2010)
II. Upper age limit is relaxable for SC/ST by 5 years, and 3 years for OBC.
III. 5 years shall also be admissible to the candidates who had ordinarily been domiciled in the state
of J&K during the period from 01.01.1980 to 31.12.1989.
IV. Five years of age relaxation will also be granted to the children and dependent family members of
those killed in the riots (1984 riots and 2002 communal riots of Gujarat).SC / ST/ OBC
relaxation, as per Govt. instructions, will be in addition to this relaxation. Children means (a) son
(including adopted son); or Dependent family members mean: (a) spouse: or (b) children: or(c)
brother in case of unmarried Govt. servant who was wholly dependent on the Govt. Servant at the
time of his killing in the riots. Children and dependent family members of those killed in the riots
(1984 riots and 2002 communal riots of Gujarat) will produce a certificate from the concerned
District Collector.
V. One time relaxation in upper age limit for 3 years in respect of the trained ITVs of SSB, in
addition to the existing relaxation in age limit for SC/ST/OBC category candidates, for
recruitment in SSB as Constables as a special case, subject to fulfillment of other prescribed
eligibility condition.
(B) Educational qualification:
Matriculation or 10th Pass from a recognized board/university.
Note: - The minimum Educational qualification for ST Category candidates of Mizoram State
and for ST Category candidates belonging to Tirap and Changlang Districts of Arunchal
Pradesh is Class-VIII Pass. The Candidates while filling the OMR application form
should indicate their educational qualification as 10 th Pass since there is no option given
for 8 th Pass in the OMR application form.
(C) Physical Standards :
( D) Eye sight
The minimum distant vision should be 6/6 and 6/9 without correction i.e. without wearing of
glasses. They should possess high colour vision and should be free from colour blindness.
(E) General
Candidates must not have knock-knee, flat foot, varicose vein or squint in eyes and they
should possess high colour vision. They must be in good mental and bodily health and free from any
physical defect likely to interfere with the efficient performance of the duties. They should conform
to the medical standards prescribed by the Force and should be declared fit by board of Medical
Officers of SSB.
5. ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS FOR EX-SERVICEMEN:
(a) Physical standard: Total relaxation
(b) Medical category: Category-A(SHAPE-I)
(c) Character: Exemplary/Very Good/Good
(d) Break in service: Not more than 24 months as on 01-08-2010.
(e) Education:-Total relaxation in civil education but Army Education should be equivalent
to Matriculation.
Age limit :-Age concession for Ex-servicemen will be allowed in accordance with the orders issued
by the Govt. of India from time to time and they will be allowed to deduct Military service from their
actual age and such resultant age should not exceed the prescribed age limit by more than three years.
Wards (Sons) of serving/retired SSB personnel may also apply if so desired accordingly.
Sons of SSB personnel may apply either from their home state or from state in which his father is
posted /deployed at the time of recruitment. Applications of wards may be sent through proper
channel from the present posted unit/ last served unit of SSB. The following relaxation in physical

Standard are granted to wards of SSB Personnel, enrolled followers and Group ‘D’ employees of the
force.
(i) Height - 02 Cms
(ii) Chest - 01 Cms
(iii) Age - 01 Year
(iv) Weight - 01 Kg
Note :- Note more than two deficiencies will be considered for condonation on such enlistment
should invariably be made in the Service Book of the SSB Employee who has availed himself of this
concession / relaxation. This relaxation will not be permitted to such category of candidates who have
already been granted relaxation physical standards under SSB Rules / GOI Instructions. No relaxation
will be granted to the wards of SSB Personnel in Physical Efficiency Test (PET) / Written Test.
6. Selection procedure:
( i ) The eligible candidates shall be issued Admit Card with general instructions to appear
in the recruitment test. The date and place of recruitment (preferably within their home state or a
nearby location of neighboring State) will be indicated in Admit Card. Candidates will have to
undergo the following tests:
(a) Height Measurement: Candidates will be asked to go through the height bar and thereby
candidates with lesser height will get eliminated.
(b) Race: Those who qualify the height test, will be subjected to 05 kilometers race to be
completed within 24 minutes.
(c) Physical Standard Test(PST) :- Those who qualify the race and found eligible on
screening of testimonials will be screened for height chest and weight measurements
before sending them to Physical Efficiency Test.
(d) Physical Efficiency Test (PET): - The candidates who clear PST will be required to
undergo PET which consists of following: -
a) 11 feet long jump (3 chances to be given).
b) 3-1/2 feet high jump (3 chances to be given).
No PET will be held for Ex-servicemen. However, ex-servicemen will be
required to pass the requisite medical examination.
Physical Efficiency Tests will be only qualifying in nature, and it will not carry
any marks.
(ii) Written Examination: : - Candidates who qualify the Physical Efficiency Test will be required
to appear in written test.
The written test will consist of OMR based objective type multiplechoice
questions. It will be of 100 marks and comprise 100 questions. The question paper will be set
to assess the General Awareness, General Knowledge, Knowledge of elementary Mathematics,
analytical aptitude and ability to observe and distinguish patterns and to test the basic knowledge of
candidates in English/Hindi. The written test will be held after PET is over. The question paper
can be answered either in Hindi or English

NOTE: - As the Ex-service men are exempted from PET, they will appear in Written
Examination directly.
(iii) Medical Examination
The candidates will be medically examined to assess their physical and medical fitness as
prescribed in the eligibility conditions.
7. Application Fee:- Willing candidates can apply on OMR application form, which can be
purchased along with the detailed Instruction Booklet from the following Post Offices w.e.f.
30.08.2010 to 30.09.2010 against the payment of Rs. 40/- ( Forty only) as postal handling charges.
Application fee will be Rs.50/- for candidates belonging to General and OBC categories. No
fee will be charged from SC/ST and Ex-Servicemen. The candidates will enclose Bank Draft
drawn in favour of the Commandant 25 th Bn. SSB, Ghitorni, PO-Arjungarh, New Delhi-110047
along with application form. No documents /testimonials/cast certificates etc. are to be sent with
application form. However, the candidate report at the venue on the date and time for recruitment
process he should bring the documents in original along with one attested photocopy of the same.

09. General instructions:-
** On appointment, the candidate shall be governed by the provisions of the
** SSB Act and Rules.
** Government shall not be responsible for damage/injury/ loss to the individual, if any,
sustained during the process of recruitment test/journey.
** TA for onward and return journey to SC/ST candidates will be paid to those who appear
in written test subject to production of rail/bus tickets, original caste certificate, non
employment certificate from MP or MLA or any other Gazetted Officer of the locality in
case they are not employed in Central/State Govt. Second Class railway fare or bus fare,
chargeable by the shortest route from Railway Station/Bus Stand nearest to the normal
place of residence or from which they actually perform the journey, whichever is nearer,
to the place of Recruitment and back to the same station, provided that the fare of the
first 30 Kms in both cases is borne by the candidates and the reimbursement restricted to
the fare in respect of the balance of distance exceeding 30 Km both ways. No extra
charges, if any, incurred for reserving seat/sleeping berth in the train will, however, be
reimbursed to the candidates.
** Candidates should come duly prepared to stay for 5 - 6 days at their own arrangements
at the place of recruitment.
** All eligible candidates will be duly informed about the date and venue of recruitment
test.
** On appointment, candidates shall be governed under “New Defined Contributory
Pension Scheme” effective from 1.1.2004.
** Canvassing in any form or bringing outside influence will disqualify the candidature.
** Candidates impersonating and submitting fabricated/forged documents are liable to
disqualification /prosecution.
** Any shortcoming, which could not be detected by the “Application Receiving Centre” at
the time of initial scrutiny of the documents and found/noticed at a later stage, shall

render the candidate disqualified for the post and he will not be allowed to appear in
subsequent events of the recruitment and no further correspondence will be entertained
on the subject.
** In case any candidate is found ineligible on any ground after his appointment, his service
will be terminated immediately without assigning any reason.
** The Director General, SSB reserves the right to make changes or cancel or
postpone the recruitment without assigning any reason.
** Mere qualifying all the prescribed tests in SSB recruitment of Constable (GD) does not
confer the right of selection of the candidates but they should have to stand in merit
keeping in view the available vacancies of that particular State.
** Ex. Para-Military personnel (including SSB) will be treated as fresh entrants and they
will not be allowed for relaxation applicable to Ex-Servicemen.
** SSB strives to recruit fit, committed, talented, sincere and best candidates with
complete transparency and impartiality. Hence, candidates are advised to
