I joined the company in Nov’1988 as a deck cadet and have continued to serve with them all along. I am presently serving with them as a Master. Commercial operations of the shipping industry and the related logistics involved has been my area of interest for a long time and I have been preparing myself to venture into this field. I have served on a wide range of vessel types from ultra large crude oil tankers, Product tankers, cape size bulk carriers, to Car Carriers, Ro / Ro’s , Multi Purpose Vsl’s, geared bulk carriers with gantry cranes . I have attended numerous and extensive Dry - Dockings / Modifications at Shipyards at various ranks. Awarded for Service on best vessel of the year 2008 by NYK. As Master I have attended a 10 year special dry – dock and related strengthening of a panamax bulk carrier at Qingdao Beihai Shipyard, China The vessel ‘Alioth Leader’, under my command was judged as the NYK Car Carrier of the year 2008, for which I was awarded a certificate of Merit. As Master I have recently attended a very extensive and complicated dry-dock and modification of a NYK Car Carrier ( Leader Class ) at Universal Ship Building Corp. at Innoshima, Japan. During this period a lot of products were introduced by NYK for the first time on this Car Carrier for a trial run. During this period I planned , coordinated, implemented and then tested these numerous new products which as per NYK will be introduced on all the car carriers in their fleet after a trial period of one year. This has allowed me to gain a deep understanding of many technical aspects of a car carrier, additionally I had the fortunate chance to personally interact with many of the senior management staff from NYK Tokyo, who were in attendance in the shipyard due to the complexity of the works planned and huge budget involved. Sea Service as Master – Total 23 Months 14 days Panamax Bulk Carrier : 9 Months Car Carrier : 9 Months 14 days Sea Service as Chief Officer : 36 Months My experience as chief officer has been on cape size / panamax bulk carriers, Ro / Ro, multi purpose vessels. Basic Education : Being from a defense background, my schooling was completed from various locations and schools across the country. I completed my 10+2 and passed out of Jai Hind College, Mumbai in 1988. Background and Conduct : Coming from a family with 3 generations of defense background, I have always maintained, upheld and conducted myself in a sober, polite, honest, disciplined and professional manner as is expected from a defense officer, since I was brought up in such an environment. Proof of this lies in the fact that I have given 20 years of the best possible service to Wilhelmsen Ship Mgmt. the company which gave birth to my sailing career in 1988. I judge myself as a very systematic, methodical person. My strong point is the planned approach to every job that I undertake. Very good people management and leadership skills, specially in challenging environments and circumstances. Entrepreneur Skills and Management experience ( Non Shipping ) : I was involved in the launch and set up of a high school in Mumbai. The school is now among one of the renowned and reputed schools in Mumbai, with a strength of more than 1500 students. I continue to be a part of the core management team of the above school and serve on the board of directors providing management and administrative guidelines from time to time. I was involved in the launch and set of a very successful pre-school in the National Capital Region.
