[B]PREPARATION OF CHEMOTHERAPY:[/B] The concerned staff should be present throughout the chemo loading procedure. Assemble the needed equipments in the chemo loading area. Injection trolley with spirit, cotton ball jar, clamp bottle, sharp container. Disposable syringes as needed. Protective devices (gloves-2, mask, apron, goggles). Diluents for mixing the chemotherapy. Chemo therapy drug. Micro pore, scissors. [B]By the pharmacist:[/B] Keep the labels ready and keep it beside the IV bottles and the specific chemo drug (when more drugs have to be mixed at the same time). Wash hands. Wear protective devices. Open the glove paper, drop spirit swab, syringes as needed. Remove the plastic cork of the IV fluid. Open the drugs away from the body while breaking with a suitable pad or cotton. Take a spirit swab and wipe the top of the bottles in circular motion and keep the cotton aside. Diluents should be introduced slowly into the vials, to prevent high pressure being generated inside the sealed vial. Withdraw the chemo medicine using the syringe and expel the air without spillage of medication. When excess air is expelled from a filled syringe it should be exhausted into the vial and not straight into the atmosphere. Keep sterile cotton on the loaded bottle and seal it with adhesive. Disposal Discard all the materials which have come into contact with the chemo agent (syringes, cotton, mask, apron, ampoules, and vials) in the purple cover, wrap it tightly with adhesive. Discard the needles in the sharp container. Wash hands. Label the drugs correctly to be signed by the pharmacist and the concerned staff (in the chemo checklist as well as the label).
