My wish did not change with college also because it wasn’t the education or the friends and the environment that I loathed. Online education was like a dream come true for me and many others like me. Whether it is simply higher education or a business management degree, more and more professionals and even regular students are turning to online colleges for the convenience they offer. No wonder education through the web is becoming popular like anything, because I have realized that people like me are not few but many.

There are many places, books, blogs, websites and other literature that talk about the benefits that online colleges and online education offers to individuals and especially professionals. Convenience of time, courses can be done with the job, excellent faculty members, convenient fee payment options, flexibility in the course, great quality education are all benefits that have been talked about a lot. And they are true and important as they are the practical purposes that individuals would actually want to see in a new concept like online degrees. But there are some other aspects also which may not be considered as that practical or important but nevertheless make their mark. Here is an attempt to bring all such benefits of online learning to light.

Today’s world is a world of appearances and college students are all the more prone to keep up with the trends and stay ahead in terms of fashion. Any individual who has experienced the collegiate environment would vouch for this. In order to go to college proper dress sense and maintaining the dress code is vital in order to keep others from making fun of and keeping away from that student. Online colleges are different and more preferred from that perspective as they don’t require the students to be physically present in the college and thus rule out the possibility of anyone being dress conscious. There is no differentiation on that account in online colleges and the students are all treated the same by their peers no matter how they look or what they wear.

Another important factor is language. Lack of proficiency in using the language of communication, be it English or the regional language, hampers students from mingling with others and interacting well. This language consciousness can be because of the regional influences in pronunciation of English, not knowing the local language or not being fluent in spoken English. All of these possibilities do not pose any kind of hindrance in communication for the students of online courses as they communicate through the use of internet and using the written medium of communication. People who are not very confident and yet want to make their mark can get their written material evaluated by someone before posting it online. Moreover it is observed that may students who may not be that fluent in spoken English are better in written form of the language. No presence of peers to highlight the negatives or lesser abilities of a student in terms of using the language of communication instills more confidence in communication and so interaction is comparatively more.

Student teacher interaction also is better in online colleges in spite of the teachers not being present in person. The faculty members in an online college are more dedicated to individual students and get to know them better than in a traditional classroom environment because of the one to one interaction that they have. In a traditional setting the teachers interact with about twenty to forty students at a time and so it is difficult for them to know each one and their individual traits. The relationship with their faculty members is beneficial to students from online colleges in another major way and that the faculty members being from a corporate background themselves can guide the individual students well to hone up the skills they possess and to learn those they don’t know so that they are industrially ready by the time they leave college on finishing the course. 
Online colleges work on the principle that the students are themselves interested in taking up further studies and would therefore put in the required effort to complete the course satisfactorily. This helps to instill a sense of responsibility in the students. There is no one to compel them into doing their assignments on time nor to force them to study a part of the course compulsorily. Without any kind of force or compulsion the students have to do their work by themselves and also take up their studies. This responsibility goes a long way in helping the students be self reliant and take up the challenges of finding a way out to accomplish things well. The course material is supplied to the students and the classes are also often attended offline due to time constraints. This helps the student to put in effort to understand new concepts on their own and analyze them well in order to grasp their use and adaptability in the desired sector. 
Students also become more confident, more interactive and more technology savvy while taking up a course online. These attributes may go a long way in helping them reach heights in real life, in their professional life and also in their social life. A non-judgmental peer group, level playing field, technical help and support from college staff, expert guidance from faculty members and collaborative learning go along way in developing the personality of the students from online courses and propelling them towards successful avenues in their career or any other venture. These benefits make online learning more than desirable when coupled with the other practical advantages that they have over traditional media of learning.
