[QUOTE=Admin;6]MUMBAI: The market signed off the week on Thursday with healthy gains after domestic inflation eased from 3-year peaks and on positive global cues.

Realty shares notched up maximum gains followed by metals and the IT pack. Banking counters were also in demand after decline in inflation allayed fears of RBI hiking CRR in its credit policy on April 29. FMCG and oil & gas counters edged lower.

India's wholesale price index rose 7.14 per cent in the 12 months to April 5 compared with previous week's annual rise of 7.41 per cent and just below a forecast of 7.19 per cent. While still at worryingly high levels, the fall was well received by the market.

Bombay Stock Exchange's 30-share Sensex ended at 16,481.20, up 1.46 per cent or 237.01 points from the previous close. It touched an intra-day high of 16, 570.57 and low of 16,397.17.

National Stock Exchange's Nifty climbed 1.45 per cent or 71.1 points to close at 4958.40. The index touched a high of 4,984.95 and low of 4,889.65 intraday.

BSE Midcap and BSE Smallcap indices continued to outperform the benchmarks. BSE Midcap Index closed at 6,836.39, up 2.05 per cent or 137 points and BSE Smallcap Index ended at 8,531.36, up 2.16 per cent or 180 points.

The rally in information technology shares continued unabated with the BSE IT Index gaining 3.6 per cent.

Interest in small and mid-sized companies also revived on reports that the prime minister is willing to consider extending the concession on Software Technology Parks of India. Hexaware Technologies, Rolta, i-flex Solutions and Sonata Software today rose 4-8 per cent on the news.

Biggest Sensex gainers were HDFC Bank (up 6.95%), Hindalco Industries (5.58%), HDFC (4.32%), DLF (4.28%), Infosys Technologies (4.16%) and Tata Steel (3.55%).

Hindustan Unilever (down 3.59%), ACC (0.85%), Larsen & Toubro (0.8%), Reliance Energy (0.74%), and Reliance Industries (0.3%) were the losers.

Market breadth was positive on the BSE with 2026 advances and 703 declines.

The market will be closed on Friday on account of Mahavir Jayanti.
