During my summer internship, I was asked to collect the primary data of outlets present in the working area of Kakade Distributor. I did this by Each Dealer Survey (EDS). Then I prepared a rough map of the outlet at a particular area and then studied the present distribution to get an idea about the network. I was asked to plot these outlets on a separate chart so that route restructuring could be done. Route restructuring was done and the area which was earlier segmented into 4 sub areas was restructured into 5 sub areas. This was required as there was a significant increase in number of outlets in the area and it required a more intensive attention to provide better service. Earlier 4 salesmen(4 vehicle),1 presale agent,1 merchandiser i.e. in all 6 people were involved to service the entire area. But after the restructuring, 5 salesmen (5 vehicle), 7 presale agents and 3 merchandisers i.e. in all 15 people will be used to cater to the same area. The implementation of presale is necessary according to the company as they feel it will increase Pepsi share in this region. Earlier distribution was carried out on ready stock basis, which we converted into a pre sale activity to achieve efficiency in distribution. The objective was to increase the market- share of Pepsi by adopting aggressive distribution strategies. This is in brief about the route restructuring done during my summer internship at Pepsi.
