[B][U]DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (Ph.D.) PROGRAMME[/U][/B]
[B][U]Preamble [/U][/B]: 
The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree is one of the highest academic degree which required extended study. Ph.D degree is awarded to a candidate who, has submitted a thesis on the basis of original and independent research in any particular subject / discipline or involving more than one discipline (inter-disciplinary), that makes a contribution to the advancement of knowledge, which is approved by Board of examiners as required candidates who fulfill the eligibility requirements of the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University shall be admitted to the Ph.D. programme as per the admission procedure.

[B][U]Eligibility For Ph.D.Programme [/U][/B]: 
The candidates who have qualified for Master’s Degree (10+2+3+2 pattern or equivalent in this order) of this University or of any other university recognized by the syndicate of this university as equivalent thereto with not less than 55% of marks or a CGPA of 5.51 and above in the 10.00 point scale or B grade in the seven point scale, under CBCS, for the subjects of Physical Education, Yoga, Exercise Physiology/ Exercise Physiology & Nutrition, Sports Biomechanics and Kinesiology, Sports Management, Sports Psychology, Sports Sociology, Sports Coaching and Sports Technology, are eligible to register for Ph.D. in this university.
[B][U]Minimum Percentage required in PG degree[/U][/B]: 
For General/ BC/MBC Candidates - 55 %
For SC/ ST candidates - 50%
All the candidates who completed their PG degree on or before 1991-50%

[B][U]1 Ph.D. Degree in Physical Education [/U][/B]: M.P.Ed.,/M.P.E.S.,/M.P.E / its equivalent*
[B][U]2 Ph.D. Degree in Yoga [/U][/B]: M. Sc.,/M.A., Yoga / its equivalent*
[B][U]3 Ph.D. Degree in Exercise  Physiology and Nutrition [/U][/B]: M. Sc., Exercise Physiology & Nutrition / its equivalent*
[B][U]4 Ph.D. Degree in Sports Biomechanics and Kinesiology [/U][/B]: M. Sc. Sports Biomechanics and Kinesiology / its equivalent*
[B][U]5 Ph.D. Degree in Sports Management [/U][/B]: M.B.A, Sports Management/ M.B.A.( General) / its equivalent*
[B][U]6 Ph.D. Degree in Sports Psychology [/U][/B]: M.Sc./ M.A, Sports Psychology / M.Sc. Sports Psychology & Sociology / its equivalent*
[B][U]7 Ph.D. Degree in Sports Sociology  [/U][/B]: M.Sc./ M.A, Sports Sociology / M.Sc. Sports Psychology & Sociology/ its equivalent*
[B][U]8 Ph.D. Degree in Sports Coaching [/U][/B]: M.Sc. Sports Coaching /MS in Sports / its equivalent*
[B][U]9 Ph.D. Degree in Sports Technology  [/U][/B]: M. Tech., Sports Technology / M.Tech., / M.E. (Any Discipline) / its equivalent*

[B][U]Categories Of Ph.D. Programme [/U][/B]: The two categories of Ph.D. programme available are:
1. Full-time
2. Part-time.

[B][U]1. Full-Time Ph.D. Programme [/U][/B]: 
a) Candidates under full - time shall do research work in the University/ approved research centers shall be available during the working hours for curricular, co-curricular and related activities. Who satisfy the eligibility conditions as per the regulations shall apply for Full- time category in the respective subject.
b) Candidates in employment who want to pursue full - time study, should be sponsored by their employer and should avail leave for the minimum duration of the programme and should formally relived from their duty to join the research programme.
c) Candidates who are selected at National level fellowships programme or by any recognized bodies.
d) Foreign Nationals sponsored by the Government of India on exchange programme and who satisfy the eligibility conditions as per the regulations shall apply for Full – time category in the respective specialization.

[B][U]2 Part – Time Ph.D. Programme [/U][/B]: 
The following categories of candidates are eligible to apply under part- time Ph.D. programme
a) Full - time teachers of this University Departments/ Colleges affiliated to this University.
b) Research Fellows/ Scientists of the National Sports Research Centre / /Sports Authority of India/ Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu and JRF/SRF/PF etc., working in research project funded by external agencies such as DST/DOD/DOEN/UGC/CSIR and similar National and state level organizations and executed by this University/recognized research centers of the affiliated colleges and regional and National Institutions/ Laboratories dedicated to physical education, Yoga, Exercise Physiology and Nutrition, Sports Biomechanics and Kinesiology, Sports Management, Sports Psychology, Sports Sociology, Sports Coaching and Sports Technology.
c) Full - time teachers working in colleges/ schools are also eligible to register for Ph.D. under Part-Time Research provided they fulfill the following eligibility norms.
1. The full-time teachers working in colleges with minimum two years of experience after obtaining the concerned Master’s Degree are eligible for Ph.D. admission.
2. The full-time teachers working in schools with minimum three years of experience after obtaining the concerned Master’s Degree are eligible for Ph.D. admission
3. The full-time employees working in recognized companies / industries/ institutions with minimum three years of experience after obtaining the required Master’s Degree are eligible for Ph.D.admission.
4. The candidate must submit Experience/ Service certificate from the employer.
5. The candidate must submit No Objection Certificate from the present employer

ii) The scholar shall submit 12 hard copies and 2 soft copies (CD) of the Synopsis of his/her research work prepared in accordance with the thesis format ( Annexure IX) and specification prescribed by this university to the Director Research through the Doctoral Committee, Departmental / College Research Committee and the thesis Supervisor.
