This project is carried out in P.E.S polytechnic Bangalore. The aim of the project is to actuate the door pneumatically in buses and to make specious around the doors.

[B]Brief about project [/B]:
“Cycle Time Reduction in the Manufacture of Commutator - Using Method Study” was carried out at Kirloskar Electric Company Limited Bangalore.
The main objective of the project is to reduce the cycle time to manufacture a commutator from raw material stage to finish stage by visual inspection. After studying commutator assembly line, it was found there was certain problem which was taken as a way of life that is nobody ever thought there was idle time, which increased the cycle time. Thus if the careful study is being made at shop floor and the facts regarding the non productive elements are being explained to the personnel and workers much more benefits can be obtained in terms of productivity improvement.
The project work was carried on reducing the cycle time in the manufacture of commutator used in DC motors, which are used for power and industrial applications. Productivity improvement is the need of the hour as the nation is going through a severe financial crunch.
In this work, method study was implemented and a revised cycle time was obtained. It was found that the proper utilization of time and skill, keen observation and the systematic industrial engineering approach can be a solution to these problems.
The complete manufacturing process was studied and observed. It was seen that presently 1811 min 58 sec were taken to manufacture a commutator, after critical examination that is by plotting man machine charts and time study sheets, it was reduced to 1671 min 27 sec, which resulted in the reduction of cycle time by 140 min 31 sec. The overall cycle time in the manufacture of commutator was decreased by 7.74%.
