Project Experience
Improving Transient Stability Using FACTS Devices
This project will summarize various robust control techniques for the enhancement of transient stability of a large power system. Flexible ac transmission systems (FACTS) controllers are being used to damp out the power system oscillations. 
In simple FACTS can be defined as, "Alternating current transmission systems incorporating power electronic based and other static Controllers to enhance controllability and increase power transfer capability". 
Computer simulation results under a severe disturbance condition (three phase fault) for different fault clearing times and different locations of FACTS devices were analyzed.
DOIT- Digital Optical Instrument Transformer
The measurement of voltages above 1 kV and currents above 100 A is made through lately developed new types of instrument transformers with digital outputs using optical technology. Although the actual sensing element may still be a classical transformer an A/D conversion takes place at some stage, and the secondary signal becomes available only as a digital signal. 
The system is based on already established high-voltage standards (IEC – International Electro technical Commission Standards) combined with a separately verifiable Analog/Digital-converter and specialized software.
