[B]AIMS & OBJECTIVES   [/B]   
The motivation to start a National Programme in Marine Hydrodynamics at IIT Kharagpur are the following:

** to bridge the large knowledge gap that exists in the country in Marine Hydrodynamics, and develop indigenous R & D capabilities in Naval Systems 
** to enlarge and strengthen knowledge base in the country in Marine Hydrodynamics
** to augment and modernize the existing computing and experimental facilities in Marine Hydrodynamics  with new software and systems
** to encourage and popularize the use of the facilities created  under the programme by various educational and R&D organizations in the country
