[b]Area of Interest [/b]:- - Protein purification - Molecular Biology [b]Academic Projects [/b]:- UGC Funded project PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF GENISTEIN AND RESVERATROL ON DOXORUBICIN INDUCED CARDIOTOXICITY IN MALE ALBINO RATS Doxorubicin(adriamycin) is an anthracycline antibiotic that exerts its effect by intercalation between the bases of DNA and inhibit the activity of topoisomerase2.It leads to breaks in the genomic DNA.Doxorubicin is a potent broad spectrum chemotherapeutic agent that is highly effective in treating patients with leukemia’s lymphomas and many solid tumors.The clinical utility of doxorubicin antineoplastic drugs is limited by the risk of cardiotoxicity.Recently a lot of research is going on with a need for eliminating the cardiotoxic effect of this drug by using natural products such as Phytoestrogen mainly belongs to the phenolic compounds known as Flavonoids.Reservatol,and Genistein are the most studied phtoestrogens. Genistein is found to show both anticancer effect and antioxidant effects.Hence present study made an attempt to study the protective effects of Genestein and resveratrol on Doxorubicin induced cardiotoxicity.
