Academic projects : M.Pharmacy : Project Title : Design and Development of oral soluble film of Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride with Ambroxol Hydrochloride The work is formulating patient friendly dosage form i.e. Film drug delivery is the dissolving film or oral drug strip to administer drugs via absorption in the mouth (buccally or sublingually) and via the small intestines (enterically). These dosage forms dissolves to release the drug as soon as they come in contact with saliva, thus obviating the need for water during administration, an attribute that makes them highly attractive for paediatric and geriatric patients. Since the current dosage form prepared is believed to be dissolving in patient’s mouth in the close proximity of taste buds. Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride and Ambroxol hydrochloride are taken as model drugs in the treatment of allergic rhinitis and urticaria specially targeting pediatrics and geriatrics patients. A natural polysaccharide like pectin in combination with HPMC in the ratio of 1 :1 is used for the preparation of films using solvent casting technique. The films prepared by this method are being evaluated for drug loading efficiency, In-vitro release, morphological and mechanical properties. Finally oraganoleptic test is carried out on healthy human volunteers. All the tests are positive in end and shows the oral soluble film is acceptable and having more compliance than others dosages forms. B.Pharmacy : Project Title : The formulation and development of mucoadhesive tablets of Amoxicillin Trihydrate Mucoadhesive drug delivery systems (MDDS) were used to localize a delivery device within the lumen to enhance in a site - specific manner. This approach involves the use of bioadhesive polymers, which can adhere to the epithelial surface in stomach. Mucoadhesive systems in oral drug delivery promise the advantage of a prolonged gastric or small intestinal residence time, an intimate contact of the delivery system with the absorption membrane and the basis for interaction of multifunctional polymers with the mucosa such as permeation enhancement or enzyme inhibition. The Mucoadhesive Tablets were evaluated for hardness, drug content, and dissolution studies, mucoadhesion test. Carbopol 934 and Chitosan were found to be efficient as mucoadhesive polymers. Mucoadhesive tablet revealed maximum percentage cumulative release of 86.1% in 7 hours as compared to 87.7%in 40 minutes for conventional tablet. Hence mucoadhesive tablets show longer residence time in gastric medium.
